Religion
Assyrians have practiced two religions throughout their history. Ashurism and Christianity. Ashurism was the first religion of the Assyrians. The word Assyrian is derived from the the name of Ashur, the head of all Assyrian gods and goddesses. Assyrians continued to practice Ashurism until 256 A.D. By that time, most Assyrians had accepted Christianity. Assyrans were the first nation to accept Christianity, and Thomas, Bartholomew and Thaddeus founded the Assyrian Church in 33 A.D. |
